Your Questions About H2o2 Lewis Structure

David asks…

Draw Lewis structures and label each with the appropriate geometry?

Draw Lewis structures for the following molecules and label each with the appropriate geometry. CO, NH3, HNO3, H2O2, O3, C2H2, and C2H4 2.

admin answers:

You might do better posting this under chemestry, but wiki has Lewis structures for most compounds.

Joseph asks…

What is the electron pair gemoetry and molecular geometry of H2O2?

When I draw out the lewis structure I get H-O-O-H with two lone pairs on each O. so…which is the central atom? H can never be a central atom so that leaves you with O..but you have two O’s..and if you add it all up you now have 7 “bonds” on your O.(3 from bonding with each other and the H’s and 4 lone pairs)

admin answers:

The structure of hydrogen peroxide is H-O-O-H. The two oxygen atoms are joined by a single bond, and the two lone pairs and the hydrogen-oxygen bond completes all bonds. If you see the lone pairs as bonds, the structure around each oxygen atom is tetrahedral, with both H-O-O bonds in a V-shape, like water.

Your Questions About Oxygen Therapy At Home

Mary asks…

Need help from expert on chronic headaches?

I know this is LONG, but if you know anything about headaches (professionally), espcially MD/experts/specialists PLEASE read.

For the past 10 years, I have been battling progressively worsening migraines/tension headaches. (I can pretty much take care of the tensions with TENS unit, heat and regular massages) but the migraines occur 3-5+ times per week and are debilitating. I have been on 78 different medications- preventatives, abortives, narcotics, psychiatric meds as well pure oxygen), pretty much everything that is traditionally used to treat migraines and then some. I’ve stopped smoking, drinking alcohol, stabilized caffeine at 200mg/day consistently and worked on nutrition/exercise. I am still in pain every day.

I have had MRIs, CT scans, bloodwork inc. TSH, seen 3 different neurologists, a headache specialist, 4 different psychiatrists (the first neuro referred me after nothing he tried worked), an ENT and an eye doctor. Perfect sinuses. 20/20 vision. Nothing is pathologically wrong. I’ve had 2 facet blocks and an occipital nerve block, physical therapy. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO.

I am 23 years old and no doctor wants to treat chronic intractable migraines in someone that young. I suppose I appear like a drug seeker, but I’m truly not. I’m in nursing school and just want to finish, get my MPH and work in public health. I also have severe social anxiety, severe insomnia and depression (in the past) and have finally found a psychiatrist who has me on the right combination of meds for that (Lexapro, Ativan, Ambien and Seroquel). I cringe at the thought of going to another neurologist since they like to dabble in psych meds (which I understand is necessary), but they usually end up adding something that throws off the combination I’ve finally achieved to control my anxiety and depression. For instance, Keppra made me suicidal and Zonegran made me have multiple panic attacks which my psychiatrist had to intervene and add ridiculously high dosages of even more benzos so I could just go to school and work.

I’m honestly just tired inside and ready to give up. I understand narcotics are not routinely used to treat migraines, but are there special exceptions, because the ONLY medications that work (other than Midrin) are Nubain, Stadol, and hydrocodone. Demerol doesn’t work. Ultram, pentazocine, codeine, Darvocet, oxycodone, none of these work, so as you can see, I’m not looking to get high or I’d be fine with Demerol and Percocets. Truly, the most effective is Nubain. ALL it does is stop the headache. No “high”- I can still function. Sedation isn’t a problem as my body chemistry seems to react opposite to what will usually “knock someone else out” (for example, I am on 6mg Ativan + up to 30mg Tranxene PRN to control anxiety and it doesn’t make me the least bit sleepy). I am fully capable of giving myself IM injections as it only comes parenterally. I know it is not exactly desirible, but my quality life is at ZERO and I would rather give myself frequent injections than live like this. Nubain has a ceiling effect, antagonistic properties, is less habit-forming than the pure mu agonists, will antagonize other narcotics, and is not scheduled by the DEA (no scrutiny). What are the chances of having this prescribed for home use. I am already forced to go sit in waiting rooms IN AGONIZING pain 2-4 times a week for something I can easily do myself.

Meds I’ve been on for headaches or as an off-shoot psychiatrist-prescribed related TO the primary problem of headaches (and it’s a long list): virtually every OTC, Zoloft, Elavil, Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, Amerge, Frova, Relpax, Axert, Pamelor, Neurontin, Migranal, Melatonin, Lithium, Keppra, Inderal, Indocin, Cataflam with Reglan, Namenda, Esgic, Lithium, Pristiq, Mobic, Zonegran, Toradol, Paxil, Wellbutrin, Abilify, Trazodone, Buspar, Geodon, Zyprexa, Topamax, Depakote, Verapamil, PURE O2 @12 L, Esgic, Toradol, Ultram, Magnesium, Celebrex, Vioxx, dicflocenac, Lidocaine (intranasally), Vistaril, Haldol, Solu-medrol, Lexapro, Midrin, Naprosyn, Seroquel, Ativan, Restoril, Ambien, Rozerem, Lunesta, Sonata, Valium, Klonopin, Tranxene + NARCOTICS (as “rescue meds”) – Nubain, Stadol NS, Pentazocine (Talacen), Lortab, Intravenous Demerol, Darvocet, Percocet, and Tylenol #3.

I realize I’ve been medicated to the point that I don’t really know what is doing what. I know I need the Lexapro/Ativan. I’m trying to get back to natural sleep, cutting back the dosage of sleep Ambien/Seroquel for sleep (ironically neither works alone, but they work great together).

So, just to be frank, I really don’t want medications suggested (I’d be open to it, of course, but very wary). I know what works and what doesn’t. And if it’s something I haven’t tried and is related, that is if it is anticonvulsant, antidepressant, etc. I’m just not interested. I think I’ve been a good sport in giving those a chance, and I’m done playing the guinea pig. I know it’s trial-and-error but it

admin answers:

Well there is this site I found that talks on migraine relief without medication and that may help if you tried all those medications and it did not work. I hope you get over your migraines!

Maria asks…

what would you call a 6 month long slump?

I have felt down in the dumps for months now. My husband of less than a year is starting to feel neglected (emotionally, physically) I have been trying for months to get a better job than I have now, because he brings in 80% of our income, and I feel like I don’t provide anything for us. I sit at home all the time unless I go to work or school, I eat all the time (I have been up for an hour and already eaten a pack of ramen, 3 servings of mashed potatos, and half a sleeve of saltines and am still working on them) Needless to say I am gaining weight as well. I desperately need some motivation. About once a week I get in a crazy frantic mood and deep clean all of the nooks and crannies in the house and have an absolutely manic mood, but it is over after a few hours- I wish I felt like this all the time but when I don’t I feel like I am worthless and using up the oxygen that people with a great purpose in life should be breathing.PLEASE can someone give me some advice as to how to make myself feel better? PLEASE PLEASE give me some suggestions besides therapy.. I already know I should do that but I dont even have the motivation to make an appointment, let alone drive over 20 miles to get to the only place in town that offers discounted income based therapy prices, and I can’t afford it any other way.
The biggest factor in not seeing a dr. is that I CANNOT afford to go see one, and I refuse to get on medicaid. I wont compromise about my belief to not take free medical care when other people have to pay for it.

admin answers:

Kt, it could be what you experienced with your husband and the computer, it could be your landlord problem, how is that going by the way. What keeps me from feeling like this since I’m a stay at home mom is to make sure I get enough sleep, keep up on atleast the dishes and the laundry. Drink a couple cups of coffee in the morning and don’t miss my nap at about NOW, lol. Anyways, this could just be natural because of the time of year. I also take the Acai Berry. If you get the munchies, just do them in small intrevals.
And not being rude, so don’t take this wrong. There are some out there that are on it because their father (my daughter) refuses to pay for it. We pay taxes to help people out. If you have a true need for it then you should apply. It doesn’t need to be a permanent thing, just temporary till you feel better and come across work that offers it. Its not about being a bum and relying on others. We are military. Our insurance is provided by the state. So is medicare. If you drink Soda, cut it out and you will see the weight to start falling off. Snack on fresh veggies and fruits rather than mashed potatoes, etc. Good luck girl. Take care and hang in there.

Your Questions About H2o2 Decomposition

David asks…

The decomposition of H2O2 is 1st order with rate constant k = 3.66 x 10^-3sec^-1. ?

If the initial concentration of H2O2 is 405 M how long will it take, in minutes for the concentration to drop to 134 M?

admin answers:

Ln 134 = – 3.66 x 10^-3 t + ln 405

4.90 = – 3.66 x 10^-3 t + 6.00

1.1 = 3.66 x 10^-3 t

t = 300.5 s

Ruth asks…

What is the reaction order for H2O2 decomposition? (AP Lab)?

In this experiment the reaction was catalyzed with KI (iodide was the only reactant though). My data is unreliable, my pressure sensor was broken so I had to copy data from another group. The reaction order with respect to H2O2 that I obtained was 0 and for the Iodide i got a ~3.3. Has anyone else done this lab? Can you tell me your rate law please? My rate constant for 16.8 degrees celsius was 590, but I have a feeling this is wrong too.

admin answers:

I don’t know, but have you tried researching wikipedia?

Your Questions About Oxygen Therapy

Joseph asks…

Has anyone ever heard of hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

I have been looking into it for my son. He has cerebral palsy. I’ve heard that it helps the brain. I’m just wondering if there’s anyone who has used this therapy and if it has worked of at least helped a little bit.

admin answers:

It’s actually not an alternative medicine. Hyperbaric therapy is simply increasing the oxygen available to the body under a certain amount of pressure. I’ve heard it as effective for wound care and other ailments. It’s also used for treating bends, when a diver returns to the surface too quickly.

There was a recent study of this theapy for children with CP, and the results were mixed, and some acrimony seems to exist between reviewers and researchers.

It’s worth at least spending some time looking into.

Ruth asks…

I need information from those who are knowledgable in oxygen therapy?

I saw this commercial a few days ago about this new invention for those on oxygen. I can’t remember a whole lot of the details but this thing uses the air around you to “create” the oxygen you need, so I guess you don’t need those oxygen tanks, and it’s light weight and like a white box. It’s a new thing on the market, but I can’t remember what it was called. Can someone please help me?

admin answers:

Hello… I happen to be an Respiratory Therapist… Yeah it works awesome… Can’t think of the name of it… But I have seen them before… I think they are known as Oxygen concentrators… All they do is take out the nitrogen… From room air. They work great… Hope this helps….

Your Questions About H2o2 Oxidation Number

John asks…

Using oxidation number method to balance an equation

Write a balanced equation for each of the following redox reactions using the oxidation number method.
a) Fe 2 (aq) H2O2(aq) H (aq) -> Fe 3 (aq) H2O (l)

b) Cr2O7 2- (aq) Br- (aq) H (aq) -> Cr 3 Br2 (l) H2O (l)

How do I do this? what are the steps involved?

admin answers:

This should be in the chemistry section, sorry

George asks…

What element is being oxidized/reduced and by how much does the oxidation number increase/decrease per atom?

I overall understand the redox concept but I’m not sure if I got the following reactions right:
H2O2 -> H2O + 1/2 O2
CO2 + H2O -> H2CO3
CO2 + C -> 2CO
HCl + NH3 -> NH4Cl
2ZnS + 3O2 -> 2ZnO + 2SO2

admin answers:

A) H2O2 -> H2O + 1/2 O2 O is being reduced from -1 in hydrogen peroxide to -2 in water. O is also being oxidised from -1 to 0 in the element

b) CO2 + H2O -> H2CO3 Not a redox reaction C stays at +4 and O stays at -2 (the CO3 carbonate ion is 2-)

c)CO2 + C -> 2CO The C is being reduced from +4 to +2. The carbong is also being oxidised from 0 in the element to +2

d) HCl + NH3 -> NH4Cl This is not a redox reaction the oxidation numbers are as follows N+3, H+1, Cl-1

e) 2ZnS + 3O2 -> 2ZnO + 2SO2 The Zn remains the same but the S goes from -2 to -4, the O goes from 0 in the element to -2.
Notes c is the a disproportionation (both oxidation and reduction of same element) in reverse.
A is a disproportionation
